Joe Rodon incident in Leeds United draw v Swansea slammed — ‘Silly’

Joe Rodon was criticised live on talkSPORT as Leeds United drew 2-2 against Swansea in the Championship on Saturday.

Daniel Farke’s team dropped two points at Elland Road on 29 March as the Swans scored a stoppage-time equaliser to disappoint home fans.

Illan Meslier’s errors in the second half gifted Swansea a couple of lifelines after his heroic penalty save in the opening 45 minutes.

While the French shot-stopper was the villain after full-time, Rodon did something before the break that didn’t go down well on talkSPORT.

Rodon challenge silly as Swansea awarded penalty v Leeds United

Rodon made a silly challenge to hand Swansea a penalty at Elland Road, Adrian Durham says.

The talkSPORT journalist slammed the Wales international for fouling Lewis O’Brien in the 12th minute after Brenden Aaronson had given Farke’s team an early lead.

Durham feels the West Yorkshire outfit need to stamp out such thoughtless errors if they want to win automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Speaking on talkSPORT (29 March, 15:14), the journalist said: “If Leeds are to go up automatically, they have to cut out any silly stuff. And Rodon, that was silly stuff. Just stay off. You don’t need to go in and step into your man. As soon as you make contact there, he’s going to go down, and he did go down, and the referee’s got no choice, really.”

Farke to make big changes after Swansea disaster

Farke’s team were seen as favourites to win the Championship before failing to get three points against Swansea.

The Whites arguably have one of the strongest squads in the second division of English football, making failure to win the title disappointing.

While Meslier was at fault for the West Yorkshire outfit’s failure at Elland Road, other players also need to look at themselves.

Questions also need to be asked of the German manager, who made a few changes to the Leeds starting lineup against the Swans.

The international break may have forced Farke’s hand, but his in-game management left much to be desired as Swansea got back into the game after a poor start.

If the West Yorkshire outfit do win promotion to the Premier League, they’ll arguably have no chance of surviving if they put in similar performances.

The Peacocks’ inconsistency this season has been frustrating for many to see, and even if Farke manages to win promotion, there could potentially be uncertainty around his future at Elland Road.
