Joe Rodon in amazing Leeds United moment v Derby live on Sky Sports

Andy Hinchcliffe couldn’t believe Joe Rodon missed a “major” opportunity before scoring for Leeds United against Derby.

The Whites welcomed Derby to Elland Road on Saturday [7 December], with Rodon and Max Wober scoring in a 2-0 win to send them top of the Championship table.

However, the Sky Sports pundit couldn’t believe the Welshman didn’t score minutes before his first goal for the club, heading an identical corner wide.

Speaking live on Sky Sports [7 December, 12:55 pm], Hinchcliffe said: “I’m amazed that he’s missed, I just wonder does he see it slightly late as it drops over the head of Nat Phillips that slightly puts him off, [he] can’t go get his bearings.

“He gets away from his man, gets away from Kane Wilson far too easily, but maybe he doesn’t see it until slightly too late, but it’s a major opportunity.”

Joe Rodon atones for his missed opportunity for Leeds United

The commentator’s curse is real, but this time in reverse.

Only 15 minutes after Rodon sent his header wide of the goal, in an identical corner situation, Joe Rothwell delivered right onto the Welshman again, and this time he converted to put the Whites in front.

Farke can now breathe a sigh of relief; his side missed countless opportunities in the 1-0 loss against Blackburn Rovers last weekend but returned to winning ways with ease back at home.

Rodon reassured the supporters following the defeat that his teammates were “very angry” for losing ground in the Championship title race at Ewood Park and took matters into his own hands against Derby.

The Welshman is now off the mark for the campaign, and his defensive partner Wober doubled the advantage on the stroke of half-time as Brenden Aaronson’s cutback deflected into his path, who tucked his effort past Jacob Zetterstrom.

Leeds have relied on their attacking options for far too long under Farke, who will be delighted to see the goals shared around once more, and from a corner.
