Joe Gelhardt spotted as Leeds United early team news v Blackburn emerges from Elland Road

Joe Gelhardt has arrived with the Leeds United squad for their Championship clash with Blackburn on Saturday afternoon.

The Whites are looking to earn a second win in five games after a poor run of form recently, which could put them top of the Championship.

Daniel Farke confirmed prior to the game that only Pascal Struijk and Jamie Shackleton were ruled out through injury, but YEP journalist Graham Smyth has revealed (13 April) that Gelhardt is with the squad which suggests he will be in the match day squad, with Charlie Cresswell nowhere to be seen.

Leeds United must win vs Blackburn Rovers

Farke has often looked to avoid making changes to his starting lineup this season, and he has more often than not gone with experience on his bench over youth options.

Patrick Bamford has been the regular starter in recent games in the number nine role, while Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph have taken the substitute positions on the bench with Jaidon Anthony and Wilfried Gnonto for the attacking roles.

Gelhardt is regularly missing from the match-day squad this season, and was linked with an exit during the January window too as a result of a lack of game time.

But for Gelhardt to be in the squad for this game suggests Farke has his intentions set to attacking, and that is exactly why Farke was reluctant to let him go.

The squad needs depth and options and Gelhardt has experience of scoring hugely important goals at Elland Road in the past, so this could be the moment for him to earn the manager’s trust in a must-win game in the race for promotion.
