Joe Gelhardt likely to be in Leeds United squad v Wolves again on Saturday

Joe Gelhardt seems likely to be in Marcelo Bielsa’s matchday squad again on Saturday when Leeds United welcome Wolves to Elland Road, according to LeedsLive.

Patrick Bamford has missed Leeds’ last three games with an ankle injury and it seems as though he may be ruled out of this weekend’s action too.

It is understood that Gelhardt, 19, is third in Marcelo Bielsa’s striker pecking order right now, behind under-performing duo Rodrigo and Tyler Roberts.

Right time for more games?

Gelhardt was thrown into the 1-0 defeat at Southampton last weekend to make his first Premier League appearance.

It was a tough day for the ex-Wigan teenager to make his debut in England’s top-flight but also it’s a big milestone for him in his budding career.

Gelhardt’s been in sensational form for our Under-23s since he joined from Wigan last year.

Already this season, the England Under-20 international has netted six goals in seven Premier League 2 appearances for Mark Jackson’s side.

His form in Premier League 2 has led to a senior debut in the Carabao Cup win over Fulham and then a Premier League debut at Southampton.

But is now the right now for Gelhardt?

Leeds are in rotten form and we’d rather see Gelhardt playing more when Bamford is fit, maybe coming off the bench to replace Bamford in the latter stages of games we’re winning or even playing alongside the England international.

Gelhardt, right now, is being chucked in to help out the misfiring pair of Rodrigo and Roberts.

It’s a lot of pressure on young shoulders.
