Jermaine Beckford slams VAR decision in Leeds clash v West Ham

Leeds United were very unlucky to go behind in their Premier League clash against West Ham on Monday evening.

The Whites had the ball in the net twice at the London Stadium before Jesse Lingard fired in the opener and Craig Dawson doubled the lead.

The first goal to be disallowed was from Tyler Roberts after Helder Costa was adjudged to have been offside by the assistant and then VAR.

Once again, it was by the tip of his knee which was highlighted by a Twitter post from BBC Radio 5 Live during the game.

Jermaine Beckford was one of the first to respond to the post, and his one-word assessment summed up the thoughts of every Leeds fan.

“Shocking,” he wrote.

Where is the consistency?

It was judged to be offside by VAR, but the camera angle isn’t in line and never is.

How many complaints do fans and officials of every single club in the Premier League have to make before something is changed and more cameras are used?

There is no chance there is that much of a gap between Aaron Cresswell’s back foot and Costa’s knee, yet there is clear air between both lines.

This isn’t as bad as the one that stopped Patrick Bamford against Crystal Palace, but it is on the same lines given that it could have given the Whites a better chance in the game.

Much can be made of these decisions, but the Whites are making far too many mistakes for things like this to even affect them too much, and we must defend better first.
