Jermaine Beckford makes ‘Fuming’ claim after what Georginio Rutter did in Leeds United win v Plymouth

Jermaine Beckford has admitted he would have been “fuming” if he were Crysencio Summerville after Georginio Rutter’s second goal in Leeds United’s 2-0 win over Plymouth.

The Whites claimed an eighth successive win in 2024 to maintain their 100% record for the year, with Rutter getting a goal and assist during the game.

His goal came as he ran through on goal and ignored Summerville to smash through the goalkeeper’s legs and while appearing on Sky Sports (17 February, 14:39), ex-Peacocks striker Beckford admitted if he had missed then the winger would have been “kicking off” for not receiving the ball.

“I would have been fuming if I was Summerville, genuinely,” he said. “Like Jamie said, from Summerville’s perspective if Rutter doesn’t score, he’s going to be kicking off.

“But you can see the belief that he’s got in his teammates. He trusts him. Rutter has got like 10 assists, I think that makes it six goals as well for the season.

“As a forward player you’ve got to trust your teammates and as an attacking player he did that really, really well.”

Prutton then added a cheeky remark at the end.

“Selfish centre-forwards, they never change, eh?”

Georginio Rutter is sensational for Leeds United

When your team is winning it’s easy to not notice these things, and most fans wouldn’t have noticed it because he scored.

The fact he scored makes it a non-story, but Summerville would have been well within his rights to be annoyed at not receiving the pass had Rutter not found the back of the net, especially considering his form this season.

But as Beckford says, this team trust each other to make the right decisions at the right time and that’s because they’re all pushing for the same cause – to get Leeds United promoted to the Premier League.

We want the players to be annoyed and frustrated when the wrong decisions are made, because it means they care about helping the team to do better.

So long as it gets left in the past and everyone is pulling in the same direction then it can only be a good thing to have standards and both Rutter and Summerville are leading the way this season in that sense. MOT.
