Jeff Stelling tips Leeds to buck awful trend, Daniel Farke will be buzzing

Jeff Stelling believes that Leeds will secure a 1-0 win over Brentford on Sunday afternoon.

Daniel Farke eased some of the pressure on his Leeds future, with victory over Chelsea and a draw with Liverpool.

Brentford will provide a unique test for Leeds, but Stelling thinks that the Elland Road side have enough to continue their recent momentum on 14 December.

Making his predictions for talkSPORT on 11 December, he said: “Make no mistake, both of these sides are in the relegation dogfight.

“Only the top three sides have taken more points at home than Brentford, and Leeds have lost six of seven away games.

“But Leeds have used their toughest run of the season so far as a possible springboard to survival, and I think they can keep up that momentum here.”

Leeds’ awful record vs Brentford explained

Leeds have the blueprint to stop Igor Thiago at the G-Tech Community Stadium, but they have a more concerning record against the Bees as a whole.

The Whites have won just one of their last 12 away matches against the West London outfit, with seven draws and seven losses.

The only win in that period was the 2-1 victory on the final day of the 2021-22 season, when a late Raphinha penalty secured Premier League survival for the LS11 club.

Why Leeds can be confident of Brentford victory

Leeds were expected to be heavily beaten during the recent run, and they have proved that they are no pushovers instead.

Stelling is correct, the Peacocks can keep up the momentum gained from that tough period, and use it to take confidence into the rest of the season.

They are also in a unique place to challenge this Bees side, who rely on set pieces, as Farke signed numerous players in the summer who are physically blessed.

Leeds added the likes of Jaka Bijol, Anton Stach and Sebastiaan Bornauw, to specifically combat the threat posed by the likes of Keith Andrews’ side.

Beating the sides around them, like Brentford, will be critical to the Yorkshire side’s chance of staying in the division, and they can gain a huge advantage in that race by beating the Londoners.

The good results that they have gained recently will mean nothing, if they cannot take points from those in and around them.
