Jeff Stelling predicts result of Leeds United vs Brentford clash for Sky Sports
Jesse Marsch and Leeds United will record a much-needed three points from the visit of Brentford according to Jeff Stelling.
The American is under pressure after a rough run of results that saw the Whites go without a win in all competitions since before the World Cup until they brushed aside Championship side Cardiff 5-2 on Wednesday night (18 January) in their FA Cup replay.
In contrast the Bees haven’t lost in the Premier League for almost three months, defeating Manchester City and Liverpool in that time and drawing with Tottenham, and are flying high in eighth place.
But in his Sky Sports Super6 predictions Stelling has still gone for a 2-1 Leeds United win at Elland Road on Sunday (22 January).
With the Whites currently sitting just two points from the relegation places a victory would lift a significant amount of pressure.
The FA Cup win may have been against lower-league opposition, and only necessary due to the failure to overcome them in the original tie, but it has the potential to kick-start a run.
Georginho Rutter may now be in the building, and his arrival has the power to provide a psychological boost even if he isn’t ready to produce any fireworks on the pitch, but it is Willy Gnonto who is drawing all the attention at the moment.
The teenager is proving to be far more than the under-21s project who was originally slated to be brought in this month, and after dazzling Gary Neville throughout the 2-1 defeat at Villa Park on 13 January he set Marsch’s side on their way in the cup with two goals in midweek.
He has made himself undroppable of late, and if he can produce another performance of similar quality and be supported by his teammates then there is no reason why Stelling’s prediction can’t be accurate.
Leeds beat Liverpool as well on 29 October and pushed Spurs far enough to get at least a draw prior to the World Cup so they have shown they can turn it on as much as Brentford have.
And with Patrick Bamford returning to fitness and scoring form it may be that things are starting to come together at just the right time for the club and their under-pressure manager.
In other Leeds United news, a star man has been predicted to leave Elland Road soon and make the club “a fortune”.
