Jeff Stelling apologises to Leeds United fans live on Sky Sports after on-air mistake
Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling apologised to Leeds United fans live on air after mistakingly saying that the Whites triumphed over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday [22 April].
The Whites suffered their fourth defeat in five games on Saturday [22 April] in a 2-1 defeat at Craven Cottage, leaving them just two points above the relegation places, in 16th, before Everton, Nottingham Forest and Leicester City directly below them play later on Saturday.
But Stelling seemed to have got his wires crossed about the actual result. After calling the result “significant” while speaking on Sky Sports News on Saturday (22 April, 3:53pm), Stelling said: “Leeds beat Fulham… Fulham beat Leeds, I do beg your pardon, Leeds fans.

“Fulham beat Leeds 2-1, Harry Wilson with his second goal in two games and Andreas Pereira put Fulham two goals to the good. Palhinha’s own goal gave Leeds a glimmer of hope they could not find an equalising goal.
“Leeds are in deep relegation trouble, they’re two points off the foot of the table before the other results come in.”
Leeds wish
Stelling could well have got some Leeds United fans excited if they weren’t initially aware of the result but they were quickly dashed as the Sky Sports reporter quickly corrected himself.
The Leeds fans who were will have been imagining a win after another dreadful result and performance which leaves them still floating above the relegation zone by two points. How Gracia looks to pick his players up after yet another damaging defeat is uncertain and any kind of improvement within the Whites camp will be an absolute miracle.

A win over the Cottagers will have taken them to within five points of the drop zone and given them some breathing space heading into Tuesday’s crucial clash against Leicester City at Elland Road.
Now, that game is another cup final which Leeds United can ill-afford to lose. It could well be quite costly to their chances and they will now be hoping those below them including Everton and Nottingham Forest endure a similar difficult run of results.
Rather than taking charge of their own destiny, it seems as though the Whites are relying on others to bail them out of trouble. Not a good look.
