Jayden Bogle stuns pundit live on BBC with unheralded moment in Leeds win v Preston

Leeds United’s clash with Preston North End was a dramatic one, on a crucial day in the race for the Championship promotion spots.

Burnley’s victory on Friday night meant there was no room for error for Leeds, but Manor Solomon’s early strike was cancelled out by Kaine Kesler-Hayden.

Jayden Bogle put the hosts back in front before half time, and the right-back enjoyed a sensational first half on an individual level.

Even beyond his goal, Bogle earned praise for his display going forward, with one moment a particular highlight as Leeds recorded a vital 2-1 win over Preston – on the same day Sheffield United lost 2-1 to Plymouth Argyle.

Bogle praised for Leeds chance in first half v Preston

Bogle was a threat down the right hand side in the first half even after his goal to put Leeds ahead, and the home side could have made it three through Joel Piroe.

The defender created one of the best chances of the game, as Bogle pushed up on the right and put a superb ball in for Piroe.

Although the striker missed the chance, with Piroe putting it wide, Bogle was praised for the quality of his delivery.

“It was a tremendous ball into Piroe,” former Leeds defender Aidy White told BBC Sport (12 April, 12:51pm).

“He gets the shot away, but it doesn’t quite have the power behind it and it trickles away from the goal.”

Piroe lets Leeds teammates down v Preston

Leeds were smelling blood going forward against Preston, with Bogle and Solomon particularly threatening, but they were let down by the man in the middle.

Even after Bogle’s excellent delivery was put wide by Piroe, the striker could not make amends in the second half, as he hit the crossbar from another dangerous ball from Solomon.

Leeds’ inability to kill games off recently has seen them drop crucial points in the Championship promotion race, and more clinical finishing from Piroe could have secured the win against Preston long before the final whistle, but he was relieved as they came away with all three points.

For Bogle, it was a strong display at the back and going forward, having bundled in Leeds’ winning goal, while also causing danger with his crossing and dribbling, and his contributions ultimately directly led to the victory.
