Jayden Bogle achieves the ‘impossible’ in Leeds loss vs Sunderland – but it’s not a good thing

Leeds United suffered a frustrating 1-0 defeat to Sunderland on Tuesday night, and Michael Brown was shocked at one Jayden Bogle moment in particular.

Daniel Farke’s side were unable to find a way past Regis Le Bris’ Sunderland, before the Black Cats pounced on their opportunity to win the game from the penalty spot at Elland Road.

Just minutes after Leeds saw a Joe Rodon goal ruled out by VAR for offside following a free-kick from Anton Stach, a Wilson Isidor shot deflected off Ethan Ampadu’s knee before striking his arm.

Referee Stuart Atwell went over to check the incident on the screen before pointing to the penalty spot, from which Habib Diarra squeezed his penalty past Karl Darlow in the Leeds goal.

It’s a defeat that creeps Leeds closer to being dragged into the Premier League relegation battle, and continues their search for a first league win since beating Nottingham Forest on 6 February,

Michael Brown stunned at what Jayde Bogle did vs Sunderland

There were some mixed performances from those in white shirts on Tuesday night, with Farke now faced with some rotation dilemmas ahead of their FA Cup fifth round tie against his former club Norwich City on Sunday.

One of those players who could find himself out of the team to face the Canaries is Bogle, with the 25-year-old having came off the bench in the last round against Birmingham.

The attack-minded right-back struggled to really make his mark on the game against Sunderland, and was unable to hurt the Black Cats down the right flank.

However, he did have one swing at goal on Tuesday, but it was one that will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

With just minutes of the first half remaining, Bogle let an effort go from the right that ended up going all the way out for a throw-in, which drew painful groans from the Elland Road faithful.

Reacting to the moment via BBC Radio 5 Live, Brown couldn’t quite believe what he saw as he attempted to describe Bogle’s shot.

“Jayden Bogle is on the right-hand side of the goal and he’s dragged it so far wide it’s gone for a throw,” Brown said.

“There’s two hands on his face. Impossible.”

Bogle can be let off for rare Sunderland mishap

Leeds fans will forgive Bogle for his pretty embarrassing Sunderland shot, as he has largely been excellent for them this season.

There were some question marks over whether he’d be a good enough starting option at right-back for Leeds in the Premier League, having previously been relegated twice at the level with Sheffield United.

However, the former Blade has been consistent and reliable in Farke’s side this term, and should feel confident that he’s done enough to cement his place there ahead of the summer transfer window.

Sunderland was one of his quieter performances of the season so far, and Leeds will need him back to his best as they attempt to make sure they avoid being dragged into a relegation battle over the coming weeks.
