Jamie Carragher predicts if Leeds will achieve three-year first this weekend vs Liverpool

Jamie Carragher has predicted Liverpool will beat Leeds United at Elland Road in this weekend’s Premier League clash.

Leeds defeated Chelsea 3-1 at Elland Road on Wednesday in a shock result that saw them climb out of the relegation zone.

Liverpool were held 1-1 at home to Sunderland, meanwhile, and are down in ninth place – way off where many predicted them to be this season.

The reigning champions have endured a poor campaign under Arne Slot, but Liverpool are still favourites to beat Leeds on Saturday evening.

Jamie Carragher cannot see back-to-back wins for Leeds

Daniel Farke’s job remains under threat at Leeds despite the win over Chelsea, with another positive result now needed against Liverpool.

Leeds, who were on a four-game losing run prior to beating Chelsea, have not won back-to-back Premier League games since November 2022 – a little over three years ago.

That comes with the caveat of Leeds spending a couple of seasons outside of the top flight, but it is still basically the equivalent of an entire campaign without successive league wins in this division.

And in the view of Carragher, Leeds will not stop the rot this weekend as he predicted a 2-1 Liverpool win in his Sky Sports Super 6 predictions.

Liverpool are certainly there for the taking, having lost seven of their last 11 Premier League away games – only Fulham and Wolves (eight each) have lost more since the start of April.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin out to achieve a four-year first

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was on the scoresheet against Chelsea and also netted in Leeds’ 3-2 loss at Manchester City last weekend.

The former Everton striker is therefore looking to score in three successive Premier League appearances for the first time since August 2021.

Calvert-Lewin’s record this season

Calvert-Lewin has been an easy target of criticism at Elland Road, but three goals from 12 games – four of those as a substitute – all of a sudden does not sound so terrible.

Leeds will need DCL on top form this weekend against the fallen champions – should he recover from a minor injury – in what will hopefully be another memorable result on home soil.
