Jamie Carragher destroys Leeds United duo in first half v Wolves

Jamie Carragher has destroyed Leeds United duo Pascal Struijk and Diego Llorente for their “naive” defending in the first half against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Whites went into halftime 2-0 down despite the first half being a very evenly poised encounter.

Jesse Marsch’s side started the game well at the Molineux stadium against an in-form Wolves side but the former Liverpool player was very critical of their defending.

“Look at Leeds’ two centre backs in these early stages, both being very naive,” he said live on Sky Sports.

“Strujik on one side, thinking the ball would go out of play, I think it was Jimenez that kept it in.

“Llorente there, getting exploited by his own corner flag, putting his team in big trouble. Poor decisions.”

It was a great start from Leeds. As expected Marsch set them up to be on the front foot from the off and it worked very well for the most part against a very in-form Wolves team at home.

The biggest talking point of the half from a Leeds perspective was certainly Patrick Bamford limping off the field barely 20 minutes into the half.

Hopefully, it isn’t anything too serious as Marsch will need him desperately in the coming weeks in the relegation dogfight.

A huge second half awaits. It is vital that the Whites pick up as many points as possible from now until the end of the season to avoid their relegation nightmare turning into a reality.

Despite their impressive form of late, Marsch will see one Wolves as one of the teams Leeds need to be picking up points from.

Things have to change in the second half but it is difficult to see that happening especially with Bamford now off.
