Jaidon Anthony update emerges as Leeds United arrive at Plymouth Argyle with three goalkeepers

Jaidon Anthony is not with the Leeds United squad to take on Plymouth Argyle in the Championship early kick off, according to Beren Cross.

The Leeds Live journalist reported via Twitter ahead of the game on 17 February that the on-loan Bournemouth winger was not in evidence at Home Park.

The 20-strong group does however have three goalkeeping options, with no further unexpected absences reported.

Cross wrote: “No sign of Jaidon Anthony with the 20 players who have turned up. Everyone else as you would expect, but three goalkeepers in the 20 we have spotted.”

Daniel Farke had indicated ahead of the game that the Whites would be without senior trio Patrick Bamford, Pascal Struijk and Sam Byram [Yorkshire Evening Post, 16 February], while also sharing that Karl Darlow was expected to be back from his dislocated thumb soon.

It appears the latter has come indeed about as he is presumably one of three stoppers with the travelling party, but the absence of another attacker is a further development.

With Crysencio Summerville in starring form and Willy Gnonto having stepped up in recent weeks after the injury to Dan James it is unlikely that Anthony would have been involved heavily, but any additional players being ruled out is never what a manger wants.

With Argyle down in 15th place this is another game which Farke and Leeds United will be expected to win in their fight for automatic promotion, to continue their blistering 2024 form.

But the only games across all competitions which haven’t been won inside 90 minutes since the turn of year have both come against today’s opposition, with the FA Cup draw being followed up by a 4-1 replay win after extra time in miserable conditions on the previous trip to Home Park on 6 February.

Even without Anthony and Bamford involved the Whites will therefore be looking to make lighter work of things this time around.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay says a Championship rival was left with a “bitter taste” after the 49ers took direct measures to complete a key transfer.
