Ian Wright has said he’s worried about Leeds United being pulled into a relegation battle this season after a string of bad results.
After smashing West Brom 5-0, Leeds have now lost three games without scoring, although one of these was in the FA Cup against Crawley.
West Brom have won a game since they were smashed by Leeds and Wrighty thinks that a few teams could now be sucked into a battle for the drop.
“Leeds, Wolves and I’d say Newcastle – if I’m their fans at the moment I think I’m feeling nervy,” Wright said on the latest episode of his podcast Wrighty’s House.
“You look at Brighton, Burnley and Fulham who are 16th, 17th and 18th at the moment.
“Fulham for me will probably be feeling, with the way they are playing and how well they’re doing… they look like a problem and a danger. They’re not as easy to beat.
“They will feel like they can get out of that.
“But I worry for Wolves, Newcastle and I think Leeds need to start getting back to the Leeds at the start of the season.”
With all due respect…
We’ve got a lot of time for Wrighty and we know he’s got a lot of time for Leeds.
But, we think he’s got this one wrong. Leeds have had a blip but we’ve already got 23 points before the midpoint of the season.
Another five wins would see us safe and we can’t see us going through 20 games without getting them.
There are plenty of teams that are worse than Leeds this season and we’re 11 points ahead of Fulham who are in 18th spot.
Leeds have a very winnable game next, against Newcastle at St James’ Park.
They haven’t won since we beat them 5-2 at Elland Road and they won’t fancy going up against us at the moment.
Goals are a big problem for them – they’ve only scored twice in the last nine games.
If we could handpick opponents we’d choose Newcastle and a win would see us on 26 points halfway through the season.
That’s not relegation form.
