Illan Meslier must be axed after shocker in Preston v Leeds United

Illan Meslier has made yet another error in goal for Leeds United as they find themselves trailing Preston at half-time on Saturday.

The Whites went into the game at Deepdale on 14 December hoping to pick up three points and consolidate their spot atop the table.

However, they have their work cut out courtesy of another shambolic effort between the sticks by their number one.

Illan Meslier must take the blame for the Brad Potts strike against Leeds United

Brad Potts scored for the hosts on the counter attack and while the positioning of Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk and Jayden Bogle can be questioned for the goal, the majority of the blame lies with the Frenchman in goal.

The two centre-backs could’ve stopped the ball from reaching Potts and Bogle could’ve blocked the shot but the ball was struck straight at Meslier.

He certainly has got to be showing his skills and wrist strength as a goalkeeper and keep that one out.

At this point, it seems like every shot on goal is one that the 24-year-old concedes, putting his team under pressure.

With Karl Darlow, a quality and experienced goalkeeper on the bench, it’s baffling how Daniel Farke continues to trust Meslier.

Hopefully, he is ruthless enough to take him off at half-time and make Darlow his new number one from the next game.

In other Leeds United news, a first-team ace is unlikely to play the full 90 minutes until the end of 2024 after what happened recently.
