Illan Meslier caught in ‘Extraordinary’ Leeds United incident after draw v Swansea

Leeds United drew 2-2 against Swansea in the Championship on Saturday, but Illan Meslier did something unfathomable.

Daniel Farke made a few changes at Elland Road on Saturday (29 March), with Ethan Ampadu returning to the starting lineup.

Brenden Aaronson punished Alan Sheehan’s team in the opening minute of the fixture, giving the Whites an early lead.

Meslier was the hero of the first half after saving a penalty, but the French shot-stopper quickly turned into a villain after an unbelievable mistake.

Leeds United error v Swansea unforgivable from Meslier

Meslier made an “unforgivable” error as Swansea equalised in the second half against the Whites, Adrian Durham says.

The talkSPORT pundit couldn’t believe the 25-year-old gifting the Swans a goal after dropping the ball from his hands and allowing Harry Darling to score.

Durham was baffled to see the goalkeeper make the mistake since there was no pressure on him, and Willy Gnonto thought he saved the West Yorkshire outfit’s blushes with a late winner, but Zan Vipotnik scored at the death.

Speaking on talkSPORT (29 March, 16:27), Durham said: “Wow, that’s extraordinary. There’s no pressure on [Meslier] whatsoever. It’s a simple cross. He can see it right from when it’s booted from the corner flag to his hands. He’s literally dropped it, and Darling’s just stepped in and scored. It’s unforgivable, really.”

Farke needs perfect record at Elland Road to pip Sheffield United

Sheffield United overtook Farke’s team after their 3-1 win over Coventry City on Friday (28 March).

While the Whites are one of the favourites to win promotion this season, they must ensure an automatic place in the Premier League.

The Peacocks were in the play-offs last season and lost to Southampton in the final, with a similar scenario this year surely not good for the German manager.

Leeds have a decent record at Elland Road, and fans will hope they can get maximum points in the final three home fixtures.

The West Yorkshire outfit can’t afford to drop points in the final stretch of the season with Burnley on their tails.

Farke’s team were fortunate to keep their lead going into the break against Swansea, as Meslier had to save a penalty, but the shot-stopper made two glaring errors to hand the visitors a point.

There are high hopes from the Whites due to the strength in their squad, and fans will hope they can get over the line.

Farke has one of the best squads at his disposal, and failure to win the Championship will lead to questions around his suitability to take charge of the Peacocks if they get into the Premier League.
