'I was a bit shocked' – Sky Sports pundit couldn't believe what one Leeds player did

Sky Sports pundit Gabby Agbonlahor said he was shocked at how good the quality of Patrick Bamford’s finishing was as the Leeds United striker ran amok at Villa Park.

Leeds beat Villa 3-0 with Bamford getting all the goals in a 19-minute hat-trick in the second half of the game.

Agbonlahor – a former Villa striker – said that other clubs would be watching and that Bamford would struggle to get the same sort of space again.

Talking on The Football Show (Sky Sports, Tuesday, 11.30am) Agbonlahor said, “For me, I was a bit shocked about how good those finishes were.

“A lot of clubs are now going to look at those goals and think you can’t give Bamford that much time again.”

Fellow pundit Danny Mills said, “Last season they would have ended up hitting a defender or in the stand. Now, he’s thinking if I miss one I’m going to put the next one in the net.”

Bielsa correct again

Agbonlahor dialled back his comments on Leeds after labelling them a myth ahead of the game.

He gave credit to Marcelo Bielsa and actually said that Dean Smith should have tweaked the side tactically when it became obvious what was happening at Villa Park.

One person that won’t have been shocked by what Bamford did is Marcelo Bielsa. He’s consistently said that the striker would improve his efficiency after a hit and miss season in the Championship.

He’s done that just at the right time for Leeds, averaging a goal-a-game since the club was promoted to the Premier League.

Bamford has scored more goals in the Premier League this season than Harry Kane and Sadio Mane, and the same as Jamie Vardy and Mo Salah.

That’s pretty good company to be in – long may it continue.
