'Massive loss' – Manager from Leeds promotion rivals reacts to Whites losing key star to injury

Cardiff manager Neil Harris has said that the loss of Pablo Hernandez was a “massive loss” for Leeds and added he was delighted to put one over on Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds lost 2-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday in a disappointing return to action.

Talking to Leeds Live, Harris said, “There was some worry. Leeds, tough first game.

“I was pumped up for the game because I wanted to beat Leeds because I wanted to beat Marcelo Bielsa, because he’s the main man.”

Harris admitted that Pablo Hernandez was a “massive loss” for Leeds and a “massive boost” for Cardiff.

“No disrespect to players that might come in, in that position, but he’s a top player at this level,” Harris added.

One over on Bielsa?

Leeds fans don’t like Neil Harris much and we know how they’ll react to this, although he makes a very good point about Hernandez. He was a huge loss on Sunday.

This wasn’t so much Cardiff beating Leeds as Leeds beating Leeds.

Leeds registered an xG (expected goals) of over 2, while Cardiff managed just 0.32. It was the most ‘unfair’ game in the Championship by a mile according to stats site InfoGol.

Cardiff and Harris just got lucky that they met the Leeds that can’t finish chances. Plus, scoring twice from an xG of 0.32 is punchy and not really something Harris can take credit for.

Still, we’ll take the compliment that Bielsa is the main man in the Championship and move on. It’s Fulham up next and we’d love to get one over on them.

Hopefully, Hernandez will be back for the game but it will be tight – he’s only returning to training on Wednesday and perhaps the best we can hope for is that he makes the bench.
