We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that Marcelo Bielsa will ring the changes for the game against Newcastle at Elland Road on Wednesday night.
Robinson has said the fact that he’s dropped Helder Costa and subbed Jack Harrison off at half-time against West Ham shows he’s not happy with the way things are going on the pitch.
And he said he would be “surprised” if Bielsa doesn’t change things up against Newcastle, with a big game against Man United coming up on Sunday.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “He’s changing things. Dropping Costa and bringing Raphinha in is a sign that he’s unhappy.
“Even if Leeds are losing, if they’re playing well he doesn’t change things.
“But we’ve seen Costa dropped and Harrison substituted at half time in the last game.
“Those wing positions looked so solid at the start of the season but those two players aren’t putting their hands up and grabbing the shirt at the moment.
“There are two positions between four players and no one’s making them their own.
“I’d be really surprised if he doesn’t change it up for Newcastle, I think the team needs freshening up a bit. It will be interesting to see who plays.
“After the Arsenal and Everton games, the team picked itself, but the last two performances haven’t been anywhere near those.
“I think he’ll change it up. He’s going to have to look to use his full squad over the festive period.”
We wouldn’t be surprised to see both Jack Harrison and Helder Costa dropped after the last game at West Ham.
It means Poveda could be in line for his first Premier League start after being used as an impact sub in previous games.
Bielsa also has Pablo Hernandez back after the playmaker put in an impressive 45 minutes for the Under-23s on Sunday.
