LUTV pundit Ben Parker has claimed that Marcelo Bielsa will make one key change to his Leeds United starting XI for the game against Sheffield United on Saturday.
Talking on the latest episode of the LS11 podcast, Parker said that would be tough on Pascal Struijk but added that Cooper is a player who always plays if fit.
Cooper has missed the last two games through injury.
“The way Pascal Struijk is playing, in his mind he’ll be saying ‘I’ve done nothing wrong and I should be playing’,” Parker said, “but knowing what Marcelo is like and how he likes the team, when Liam Cooper is fit he’s played every single time.
“When he’s had these injuries, the next game when he’s fully fit he plays so that leads me towards [him starting] providing he is fully fit.
“We saw him training in the video the club put out, so if all has gone well I expect him to come in and play next to Llorente.
“But I’d have no issue about keeping it the same with Struijk because he’s been fantastic.”
Parker went big on his prediction and said that Leeds would win the game 4-0.
Big moment for Cooper
Marcelo Bielsa is a manager who believes in loyalty and he doesn’t like tinkering with a winning team.
However, he does have players that come straight back in when fit. Kalvin Phillips is the one who will always play if he’s 100%. Patrick Bamford is another.
It’s been similar with Cooper up until now but that’s more down to lack of bodies at the back.
We’re not sure if Cooper will still retain this sort of ‘must-play’ loyalty but it will be fascinating to see.
If Cooper doesn’t start then it could signify a changing of the guard at Leeds with Robin Koch also back from injury and Pascal Struijk playing really well.
If Cooper does come back in it will be pretty tough on Struijk after a fantastic season from the youngster.
If we were to call it we’d go with Cooper but we don’t think it’s as clearcut as Parker thinks.
