Great responsibility – Exclusive: Pundit reacts to surprise Leeds update on Coronavirus testing

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Leeds United acquired their own Coronavirus testing kit before the official EFL program kicked in and Paul Robinson belives it shows the detail the club go into and the “responsibility” it’s showing to its players and their families.

The news was revealed by the Daily Mail and confirmed by Angus Kinnear, who said the kit would be used for families if any players had health concerns.

Players and staff are now being officially tested through the official EFL scheme. There have been no positive tests delivered by any payer or staff from Leeds so far, with training resuming at Thorp Arch last Monday.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “I think it just shows a great responsibility for their players and families, and where they are in the season.

“If they have the best ways of testing players then it means they can train together more often and train in groups.

“If it gives you a slight edge against other teams who can’t test players as often, then it just shows again how far Bielsa goes to give Leeds an edge.

“If they’ve got technology that can test players more often or quicker, then they’ll be able to spend more time on the pitch and it sets them in better stead for the season to start again.”

Leeds are leaving no stone unturned as they look to secure promotion in one of the craziest seasons of all time.

There’s still no restart date for the Championship but it’s looking like matches will kick off again in late June after three rounds of testing by the EFL.

The first round of testing produced just two positives, both from Hull. The second round saw three positives with two from promotion rivals Fulham.

The third round of results was announced on Saturday night with a spike to 10 positives from eight clubs, including one player from promotion rivals Fulham.
