Graham Smyth reacts to Sam Chambers developments at Leeds United
Graham Smyth has called the debut of Sam Chambers a “big moment” as Leeds United beat Plymouth at Elland Road on Saturday.
New signing Josuha Guilavogui and Chambers were handed their first senior minutes for the club in the 3-0 win in the Championship on 2 November.
The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reacted on X as Daniel Farke rang the changes late on in the win.
“Sam Chambers called back to the bench to prepare as well,” he wrote. “Big, big moment for him.”
Sam Chambers gets Leeds United debut
Chambers, the 2007-born recent professional made his bow having played regularly for the Under-21 and Under-18 sides, as one of several of the Thorp Arch crop to show encouraging signs.
Guilavogui’s debut was eagerly anticipated by the Elland Road faithful too, with their experienced free agent signing left on the bench at Bristol City last week [26 October].
But he was introduced in perfect circumstances with the game sealed against Wayne Rooney’s visitors, who were swept aside before the interval.
There are seldom better arenas than a packed-out Elland Road on a winning note to make your senior bow, and Chambers was given the trust by his boss to do just that.
Leeds have now cut the gap to Sunderland back down to three points after their draw at Queens Park Rangers, resting senior players while at it ahead of two big games before the international break.
What a day, all around.
