Graham Smyth rages at ‘atrocious’ moment in Leeds United draw v QPR

Leeds United have slipped to yet another frustrating result in a 2-2 draw against QPR on Saturday.

Coming off the back of defeat against Portsmouth and a win against Millwall, Daniel Farke will have been keen to secure another three points.

That wasn’t the case at Loftus Road on 15 March as the Whites snatched a point in the second half despite going two goals down after 30 minutes.

Before the second of the home side’s goals went in was particularly frustrating for Graham Smyth who was left raging on social media.

Smyth fumes at Leeds defending v QPR

It is fair to say that the Championship leaders had the better of the play in the opening stages but just lost their concentration at times.

This was certainly on show for Koki Saito’s curler, perfectly set up by Brendan Aaronson who tried to be too clever for his own good inside the Leeds box.

Although this was frustrating, it was the second goal from the R’s that sparked rage among away fans as Steve Cook was given the freedom of the penalty area to head home.

This saw Smyth take to X (15 March) to voice his anger after the lack of defensive nous from the Whites which certainly cost them dearly.

He said: “Atrocious defending. Throw in on the right, a simple two-v-one leaves Solomon standing as Smyth goes towards the byline and a cross finds a completely unmarked Steve Cook who has time and space to pick his spot for the header, in off the far post.”

Leeds blow chance to open Championship gap v QPR

There is such little time remaining in the season that every single point will matter, but wins will be better than draws, especially against lowly positioned sides.

A win away at Loftus Road would have certainly been favourable in order to open up a five point gap to Chris Wilder’s side who have a game in hand.

This gap wasn’t opened up but ultimately a point is a positive result given where the Whites were just 10 minutes before the half-time interval.

It feels as if Farke needs to be more willing to change his side and cause problems for opposition outfits who just want to shut Leeds out.

QPR were able to exactly that and took their chances when they came, which can’t be said about the away side in more ways than one.
