Graham Smyth: Leeds set for multi-million development work on Elland Road stadium imminently

Leeds United are champions and heading back to the Premier League.

We’re not going to tire of typing those words out. But, while getting promoted will unlock the riches of the Premier League, there is plenty of work that Leeds need to do before they get there.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth has said that multi-million-pound plans are already in place for development at Elland Road.

And he said that “work will have to begin swiftly”.

We know that Leeds need to upgrade their floodlights ready for 4K television – the current ones aren’t bright enough, despite Patrick Bamford and Helder Costa using them as an excuse for missing sitters recently.

Leeds will also have to upgrade perimeter advertising.

The rest of the stadium is in good shape, with upgrades already done in the heart of Elland Road.

The next big step is expansion and Angus Kinnear has already said that there are plans in place to expand Elland Road to a 50,000-seater stadium if Leeds get promoted.

Well, that’s happened now and with no fans allowed in stadiums currently, what better time to get those plans started?

Fans could be allowed back into Elland Road from October in reduced numbers and we know even a 25% capacity stadium will make more noise than most Premier League clubs do normally.

Imagine 50,000 fans inside Elland Road when Man United come visiting?

Just the thought sends shivers down the spine.
