‘Get rid’, ‘Don’t want to see him start again’ – Many Leeds fans blame one player for 2-0 defeat
Well, this wasn’t in the script. After a run of five wins without conceding, Leeds United came crashing down to earth in Wales on Sunday, losing without scoring.
Patrick Bamford took the brunt of the criticism for this from fans, as he has done all season when things don’t go right.
And his was the unfortunate block that stopped an almost certain goal on the line from Jack Harrison. It gave fans even more evidence to jump on his back.
But this wasn’t a singular failing, it was the same old issues for Leeds coming to the fore again.
This is the attack momentum graph from SofaScore and it clearly shows how Leeds dominated the game after the first 15 minutes.
However, there were plenty of mistakes and no end product. We’re not just talking goals here, but any end product in the final third. Jack Harrison and Helder Costa were disappointing and Leeds missed the creative flair of Pablo Hernandez.
But, when there are no goals, the striker will get the blame and plenty of Leeds fans piled onto Bamford during and after the game.
We don’t agree with this but such is the life of a striker. Goals are everything when you lose.
The focus on Bamford is even sharper now as Leeds have no natural striker back-up with Jean-Kevin Augustin injured. And next up is Fulham at Elland Road.
Meanwhile, here are the best reactions to Bamford’s display on Sunday…
