Georginio Rutter in the squad, Crysencio Summerville out- Leeds United early team news vs Brentford

Georginio Rutter will be in the Leeds United squad to face Brentford but Crysencio Summerville remains out, according to Jesse Marsch.

The Dutch winger is projected to be back out on the training pitch next week according to the manager, while long-term absentee Archie Gray has made progress but is still out along with Stuart Dallas.

The trio are the only players unavailable for the clash with the Bees on Sunday (22 January), despite Max Wober being replaced against Cardiff in midweek, as club-record signing Rutter is to be involved.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of the game, via the club’s YouTube channel (20 January, 1.31pm), he said: “Stuart, Archie and Cry. But Archie made progress today, he was out on the pitch so he’s getting close and Cry is probably on the pitch next week as well.

“Georgie’s looked good in training, I think he’ll be in the squad… We’re inching towards being at full capacity.”

He also confirmed that captain Liam Cooper “should be ready to go” as well.

The FA Cup win was much more like fans would have liked to see the first time around but still showed a vulnerability at the back.

Going forward things are starting to look far more formidable with Patrick Bamford returning to the fold just as Rutter comes in and Willy Gnonto hits top form.

But all of that isn’t going to mean much if the Whites don’t start picking up points in the league, as they are just two points from the drop zone, albeit with a game in hand on everyone around them.

Having had a complete nightmare in the return fixture back on 3 September, Leeds United need to produce a markedly improved performance at Elland Road on Sunday.

A strong showing at Aston Villa a week ago (13 January) promised much but ended up defeat so, for all the positive signs continue to suggest this side aren’t far away from clicking, it is results that are needed.

Marsch has been heavily backed in the transfer market, showing the faith that the hierarchy continue to have in him, but he must produce a return quickly and a win against Thomas Frank’s side would be a good place to start.

In other Leeds United news, yet more clubs are joining the queue for a young Whites talent during this window.
