We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson thinks that Leeds can go to Old Trafford, play without pressure after the win against Newcastle and come away with the points in a 2-1 win.
Leeds get to lock horns with their enemy on Sunday afternoon after a long exile out of the Premier League and it’s set up to be one of the most anticipated games of the season.
Robinson added that it’s a huge shame that no supporters will be there after it was announced that both Leeds and Manchester are staying in Tier 3 over Christmas.
That means the game will play out behind closed doors at Old Trafford. United had been hoping to get 2,000 fans in if they were put into Tier 2.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “I’m just disappointed there are going to be no fans there.
“Everyone loves this game. The rivalry is fierce and horrible but the fans love it.
“Leeds v Man United is genuine hatred and the game will really miss the fans not being there.
“The Leeds players will know exactly what it means to the club and the hatred is there for all to see.
“It’s always a difficult game going to Old Trafford no matter what side you’re playing but they’re nowhere near their best at the moment.
“I think it’s a real opportunity for Leeds to go there and get a result but it’s a free hit after the Newcastle game. Man United away is not a game Leeds will be expected to win so they can go there without pressure.
“It’s a tough ask, Man United aren’t playing well, Leeds are conceding goals, I think you’ll see two teams going at each other.
“I think Leeds can win 2-1.”
If Leeds go and win at Old Trafford then you’ll hear our fans all the way from their homes.
It’s a tragedy that fans can’t go to the game but given that Leeds supporters were never going to be in attendance, at least it’s a level playing field now.
Managers have been saying that even 2,000 fans have given their side an extra yard and we don’t want United having any sort of advantage on Sunday.
