Gary Rowett baffled what he saw Norwich do in first half in Leeds – ‘Wow, Crazy’

Gary Rowett has been left baffled by what Norwich City goalkeeper Angus Gunn did in the first half against Leeds United on Wednesday.

The Whites went 1-0 up early on through Manor Solomon again at Elland Road on 22 January, tapping home from close range after a Dan James cross.

It was a good move by Daniel Farke’s side which paid off but a bizarre moment left Rowett bemused live on Sky Sports News (22 January, 7:46pm).

He said: “Leeds are doing what they normally do, they create a box to try and play round teams. Bogle runs into the box and tries to open the space up, Dan James runs in behind. It’s really good play.

“Solomon is almost unmarked to finish off, that is Leeds all over. It’s crazy defending, I wasn’t really focusing on the goalkeeper but yeah wow, he’s dived out the way.”

The home side have had the perfect start at Elland Road in their last two games thanks to the Tottenham Hotspur loanee.

Solomon grabbed the opener against Sheffield Wednesday after three minutes and followed that up with a strike within a minute against the Canaries.

Once again, Farke’s side didn’t necessarily make the most of their early lead, with Norwich arguably having the better of the chances as the half went on.

This will ultimately frustrate Johannes Hoff Thorup going in at the break in a game which they probably shouldn’t be losing given the general pattern of play.

Like last time out against the Owls, Leeds will rely on the quality in their squad to help secure another much-needed three points in the Championship promotion race.

With Largie Ramazani, Mateo Joseph and Wilfried Gnonto all available off the bench, there is no reason why the Whites can’t build on their lead in the second half.
