Gary Lineker reacts instantly as Joe Gelhardt scores last-minute Leeds United winner v Norwich City

Joe Gelhardt’s last-gasp goal for Leeds United in their 2-1 win over Norwich was “huge”, according to Gary Lineker.

Gelhardt, 19, was substituted into the game just after Kenny Mclean had levelled for Norwich in the 91st minute of the game.

And three minutes later, the teenager was wheeling away towards the jubilant Elland Road faithful as he prodded home the winning goal.

Tweeting instantly after Gelhardt’s goal and the conclusion of the other 2pm kick-offs in the Premier League, Lineker took to his personal Twitter account to say: “Huge goal for Leeds at the death. A win too for Watford.

“Really, really worried for Everton after their defeat at home to Wolves.”

Gigantic goal

We’re going to need a minute, or an hour, or a week for our heart rates to return to normal because that was the mightiest of grandstand finishes at Elland Road on Sunday.

Wow. Football, eh?

We’d been so dominant all game and squandered so many chances to build upon the lead after Rodrigo’s first-half goal.

It did feel as though a sucker punch was coming and we all thought it did when Mclean scored after some slack defending by the home side.

But Jesse Marsch was quick and decisive in his in-game management.

He knew that Gelhardt’s had an impact from the bench this season – something which escaped Marcelo Bielsa time and time again.

And as far as impacts goal, a last-minute winner against a relegation rival is just about as good as it gets.

Gelhardt looked elated with his goal, as were all of his teammates as they rushed him on the full-time whistle.

Well done, young man. You’ve just scored the biggest goal of Leeds’ season.
