‘Garbage’, ‘Disgrace’, ‘Horrendous’ – U23s ace torn to shreds by many Leeds fans v Crawley

Leeds United fans have shown no mercy when it came towards reacting to Oliver Casey’s performance in the 3-0 loss away at Crawley on Sunday.

Marcelo Bielsa saw his side dumped out of the FA Cup against the League Two club with the Leeds manager opting to play a mix of senior and youth players in West Sussex.

Casey, 20, has been an ever-present at Under-23s level for Leeds this term and the young centre-back was handed a chance to shine in the second half at Crawley this weekend.

He came off the bench at half-time to replace captain Liam Cooper, who’s being eased back into the team after a spell on the sidelines with an injury.

But the youngster failed to impress as Leeds conceded all three goals while he was on the pitch.

Casey dodged out of a challenge for Crawley’s first goal and showed an amazing lack of pace for their second goal.

According to stats by WhoScored, the Leeds 20-year-old made one tackle, one clearance and one interception in his 45 minutes on the pitch while also misplacing two of his 23 passes.

Casey struggled – there’s no doubt about that – and Leeds fans didn’t shy away from slamming the youngster for his performance.

Casey was one of many players who simply failed to perform against Crawley but those senior players will get chances in the first team every week.

Casey doesn’t get that luxury and will have to go back to square one and try to impress Bielsa in the Under-23s.

Luckily, Leeds are doing well in Premier League 2.

But, unfortunately for Casey, we don’t see him getting another shot in the senior this term now the Whites are out of the FA Cup.
