Farke shares how long Ampadu likely to miss in major Leeds blow – ‘Doesn’t look good’

Daniel Farke has shared an update on Ethan Ampadu after the influential Leeds United ace was left out of the squad to face Sheffield United with a knee injury.

Ampadu was the most notable omission from Leeds’ starting line-up to face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Monday (24 February).

Leeds did not delve into further details when announcing the starting line-up on their official website before kickoff, but Farke provided an update via Sky Sports.

Ampadu injury update after missing Leeds clash v Sheffield United

Ampadu has been as important to Leeds as anyone this season, so missing him for the top-of-the-table showdown with Sheffield United is obviously a massive blow.

And Farke was a little worried when asked for an update on the Wales international, as he could potentially be out until after the international break.

“The injury doesn’t look good,” Farke said [24 February, 7:23pm]. “It could be that we miss him for a few games, but he’ll need further assessment and we’ll see what happens in the next few days.”

If Ampadu is to miss “the next few games”, that takes Leeds up to the trip to QPR on 15 March. After that, there is then a two-week international break.

Leeds must cope in Ampadu’s absence

Ampadu has been a fan favourite ever since arriving at Elland Road, with his workrate and quality setting him out.

Farke will be far less stressed about being without the 24-year-old if Leeds pick up a point or more against Sheffield United later on Monday.

Should Leeds suffer defeat, though, that would see them drop to second and just four points ahead of Burnley in third.

Having his key men fit and available for every game is therefore imperative as far as Farke’s concerned, with Ampadu very much in that category.

Let’s just hope that three more games is the maximum Ampadu misses – clashes against West Brom, Portsmouth and Millwall – before returning for that QPR match midway through March.

Supporters will just have their fingers crossed that scan in the coming days shows nothing too serious for Ampadu.
