Farke absolutely furious after what happened in Leeds United draw v Preston

Daniel Farke was “absolutely furious” after Ben Whiteman was not sent off in Preston versus Leeds United on Saturday.

The midfielder was already on a yellow card following a foul on Brenden Aaronson before crunching into Jayden Bogle on the edge of the Lilywhites’ penalty area, though he was not punished.

Leeds fans were calling for referee John Busby to send Whiteman for an early shower, with Farke’s protests earning him a caution on the sidelines during the 1-1 draw at Deepdale on 14 December.

Writing via X [14 December], Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth wrote: “Daniel Farke gets a yellow. He’s absolutely furious. The fourth official is removed from his presence by another Leeds coach.”

Daniel Farke rightly furious after Preston v Leeds United controversy

Farke has every right to be furious with Busby. It is extraordinary how Whiteman was allowed to remain on the pitch following his challenge on Bogle.

The pressure of the fans around him, and also the players on the pitch, at Deepdale clearly got to him as he made the decision, leading to the midfielder staying on the pitch.

Known for voicing his opinion on the touchline, Farke was never going to remain quiet while his team lined up to take the free-kick, though it seems quite ironic given the situation.

Preston likely knew how close their player was to being sent off also, with Paul Heckingbottom hooking him at the half-time break, replacing him with Stefan Thordarson.

Officials in the Championship are often criticised for decisions made and this controversial moment will not help fans put any more faith in their decision-making.

They can have huge impacts on a club’s campaign, especially those who are aiming for promotion back to the Premier League, so the Whites have every right to fume over the lack of a yellow card.

Dan James was then cautioned just a few moments later to really rub salt into Leeds’ wounds.
