Leeds United got probably their best win of the season on Sunday against a very good Leicester side.
The 3-1 win exacted revenge after Leicester won the first game of the season between the two sides.
Patrick Bamford was the star man with a goal and an assist and Match of the Day pundit Micah Richards was blown away by the striker’s all-round performance.
Talking on Match of the Day 2 (BBC1, Sunday, 10.30pm) Richards said, “He [Bamford] was excellent. He mentioned he’s been more efficient and I think he has.
“He’s got so much variation to his game. He’s just a clever striker.”
Talking about his goal Richards said, “The technique to get it past Schmeichel… it was just an extraordinary finish.”
Then, at the end of the game, Bamford was clean through and chose to pass, unselfishly, for Jack Harrison to finish the game off.
Richards said of this move, “This is the end of the game. If I was in this position I wouldn’t have been passing. He’s a real team player.”
Bamford keeps proving the doubters wrong
If strikers don’t score they get criticised and Bamford had been on a run of four without a goal ahead of this game.
However, he answered his critics in fine style, putting in a man-of-the-match display and showing all sides of his game.
The finish for the goal was extraordinary and showed, along with the goals from the Villa win, that he is an elite-level striker when he’s at the top of his game.
If he could be more clinical in front of goal he would be talked about the same way as the best in the Premier League.
However, the one thing that has never dropped with Bamford this season is his confidence.
He had said he was raring to go ahead of this game and his tail will really be up now for the home game against Everton on Wednesday – our first on the new surface at Elland Road.
