Exclusive: Paul Robinson weighs in on Leeds controversy after journalist asks EFL to step in

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has weighed in on the latest salvo in the Championship ticket price controversy after Leeds were criticised for charging away fans £39 a ticket.

Leeds’ official social media page posted a message this week saying Reading were the “latest club” to not sell out its allocation and plenty of fans from other teams were unhappy.

They think Leeds are charging too much even though the home fans pay the same to sit in that stand.

In a Q&A, Berkshire Live journalist Jonathan Low said of Leeds, “The EFL need to step in. They are the ones who need to address the issue. Hopefully this latest round of publicity will help!”

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson thinks the EFL should intervene – but for the good of all away fans.

“I think there should be a cap on the price of away tickets,” Robinson said.

“Leeds have got the best fans in the Championship by a mile and probably in the Premier League too.

“Away fans should be rewarded with cheaper tickets.

“There’s a cap on away tickets in the Premier League and the Championship should be no different.”

The Premier League already has a cap in place of £30. This was introduced at the start of the 16/17 season and will continue through until the end of the 20/21 season.

We’d welcome a similar ruling from the EFL, although we still think Elland Road provides the best value for money in terms of quality of football in the Championship.
