Striker Joe Gelhardt looks set to make his Leeds United first-team squad debut against Crystal Palace tonight.

Gelhardt has yet to make it onto the Leeds bench since signing from Wigan in the summer but it looks like the wait could well be over.

BBC journalist Adam Pope said, “Looks like Gelhardt amongst the squad tonight,” ahead of the 8pm kick-off.

Gelhardt was also spotted by Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross.

Gelhardt was in the official footage of the Leeds squad that was subsequently posted on the official club Twitter page.

Exciting talent

We were half expecting to see Gelhardt make the bench after he was hooked off at half-time in the Under-23s game on Sunday.

Those 45 minutes were still enough for him to score two goals past a hapless Middlesbrough side.

Gelhardt was probably unlucky not to make his senior debut in the FA Cup game against Crawley.

He was missing in January, although not injured or out with COVID, and in his absence, Sam Greenwood made the step up.

Gelhardt has first-team experience with Wigan, though, and we’d love to see him get onto the pitch tonight.

The Leeds squad has been stretched thin in attack, with Ian Poveda and Rodrigo out for the game tonight.

That means that Gelhardt would be behind Tyler Roberts as he looks to make his full debut at Elland Road.

It might take a specific set of circumstances for him to get on tonight but just being on the bench moves him that much closer to his much-anticipated debut.

He’s a player that we’re very excited about – as are the Leeds fans.
