Ethan Ampadu brilliant, but 3/10 teammate abysmal – United player ratings vs Liverpool

Leeds United secured a crucial point on New Year’s Day, drawing 0-0 with Liverpool at Anfield.

Daniel Farke’s side are now seven points clear of the Premier League relegation zone after extending their unbeaten run to six games.

Leeds were lucky to not concede a penalty in the first half as Jaka Bijol was all over Hugo Ekitike in his own box.

However, the Whites were good value for their point, and one man in particular stood out on Merseyside.

Ethan Ampadu shows his class for Leeds

Ethan Ampadu has been so crucial for Leeds so far this season, and the Welshman showed his class once again away at Anfield.

The 25-year-old helped Farke’s side to an unlikely clean sheet against Liverpool, breaking up the play with his usual style.

Ampadu won two tackles, blocked three shots and made three recoveries as the Whites managed to shut out Arne Slot’s side.

However, he will now miss Leeds‘ clash with Manchester United on Sunday, after picking up a questionable yellow card in the second half.

Lukas Nmecha abysmal against Liverpool

Lukas Nmecha was handed his first start since coming back from injury against Liverpool, but the centre-forward failed to take his chance.

The 27-year-old had just 23 touches, losing possession 11 times as he struggled to have an impact on proceedings.

Farke veered away from the Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor front two that has worked so well in recent times, and Nmecha and Brenden Aaronson both underwhelmed.

The pair were eventually replaced by the aforementioned Calvert-Lewin and Okafor with 20 minutes left to play.
