There might have been some fireworks on the pitch between Gjanni Alioski, Pepe and Kieran Tierney on Sunday afternoon, but there was also a love-in between Leeds United and one old friend.

Eddie Nketiah’s loan spell at Leeds might not have gone the way he wanted it to and he was recalled for not getting enough game time.

However, he’s been super-classy since and has never bad-mouthed the club or Marcelo Bielsa.

Ahead of the game against Arsenal, Leeds sent out a tweet saying, “Catching up with old friends” as Nketiah hooked up with some of his old teammates.

Following the game, Nketiah replied to the message saying, “Good to see some friendly faces, hope both sets of fans are keeping safe.”

Nketiah unlucky again

There were many Leeds fans who were fully expecting Nketiah to pop up and haunt them at Elland Road on Sunday.

The relationship between Nketiah and the fans has always been good. We knew how good a striker he was when he was at Leeds – and so did Bielsa by all accounts.

His lack of game time was down to Patrick Bamford and bad luck – he got injured just as Bielsa was going to give him a run of games. He never got a second chance.

He was unlucky on Sunday, too. He would surely have got some game time if Arsenal had kept all their players on the pitch.

However, Pepe’s reckless head-butt on Alioski put paid to any thoughts of Arteta being adventurous at Elland Road.

It meant Nketiah and Alexander Lacazette stayed on the bench and Arsenal largely remained of little threat to the Leeds goal.

It was great to see Nketiah back at Elland Road, though, and great to see him interact with the Leeds players.

He might not have played too much of a part in the Championship-winning season but he scored three vital goals for us and we’ll never forget him for that.
