Early Leeds United team news v Chelsea confirmed by Jesse Marsch

Jesse Marsch has confirmed his Leeds United team news for the Premier League clash against Chelsea on Wednesday evening [11 May].

The Whites will now be without Luke Ayling, Adam Forshaw, Tyler Roberts and Stuart Dallas for the rest of this season due to injury or suspension.

Marsch has also confirmed that Liam Cooper should be available, but Patrick Bamford will miss out despite starting work again at Thorp Arch and looking good.

“Liam Cooper, last time I said he was ready to play and he trained the day before we had the press conference and we thought he was going to be available, then he had a small little reaction leading up to the match and we all just felt like it was prudent he didn’t push himself,” he said.

“So, I believe now he trained a little yesterday after that going into this next phase and we hope he will be available tomorrow.

“Patrick Bamford is on the pitch, doing individual work, hopefully in team training by the end of the week and doing very well, another one that is day-to-day. We’re about on track so we’ll see what that means, but he won’t be available for tomorrow.”

Must not lose.

With Burnley not playing until the weekend, the message is simple.

If Leeds don’t lose this game against Chelsea, they will be out of the relegation zone heading into the final seven days of the Premier League campaign.

Burnley don’t play until the weekend, and even that is an away trip to Champions League-chasing Spurs, who have been in good form recently and will be desperate to win.

Of course, though, this will be easier said than done given that Chelsea have been blowing hot and cold, one week smashing Southampton for six, and the next losing at Everton.

We hope we get the latter turning up to Elland Road, and that may be the case given their FA Cup final against Liverpool only a matter of days later.

Solving the crisis at right-back will be the biggest head-scratcher ahead of Wednesday [11 May], but once the game starts, all that matters is not losing by giving away sloppy goals.

Bring it on.
