Dominic Calvert-Lewin spotted mocking Nottingham Forest fans at Elland Road in Leeds victory
Dominic Calvert-Lewin took great pride in celebrating his goal for Leeds on Friday night.
Leeds United coasted to a 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest at Elland Road, with goals from Jayden Bogle, Noah Okafor, and then Calvert-Lewin to make absolutely sure of all three points.
Given what was at stake, it was a huge result for the Whites, who are now nine points ahead of West Ham ahead of their encounter with second-bottom Burnley.
While Calvert-Lewin will be delighted to have scored his 10th goal of the campaign, he was even more delighted to give some stick back to the travelling Forest supporters after a moment in the first half.
Nottingham Forest fans made to look like fools at Elland Road
The opening 20 minutes or so were cagey at Elland Road, with several early chances for both sides that ultimately amounted to nothing.
One of them saw Calvert-Lewin hit the underside of the crossbar with a header inside the box, with many Leeds supporters having thought that the ball initially crossed the line.
Their admittedly very brief celebrations reflected that, and Forest fans immediately mocked the Whites supporters by pretending to cheer a goal.
And when Leeds did take the lead through Bogle, the home support replicated those celebrations as the replays were shown on screen, and the same happened for the second and third goals of the night.
However, for the latter, after Calvert-Lewin directed the ball beyond Stefan Ortega with his chest, he too joined in the celebration.
How has Leeds’ win vs Forest impacted their survival chances?
Leeds now have 29 points from 25 games, which is an excellent return and keeps them well above the one point-per-game average usually needed to stay in the Premier League.
While three of the four teams below them are still to play this weekend, things are starting to look increasingly positive for their chances of survival.
Via Opta‘s supercomputer, they have just a 3.85 per cent chance of returning to the Championship, with a final points tally of 44 predicted come May.
While subject to change after this weekend’s fixtures, that could see the Whites finish 16th in the Premier League, 10 points above West Ham, who are still predicted to go down.
