Dominic Calvert-Lewin misses Leeds United clash vs Chelsea – this is why

Leeds United are set for a huge clash against Chelsea on Tuesday evening, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin will play no part.

Daniel Farke’s side sit 16th in the Premier League, after Leeds beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 last time out.

Leeds travel to Stamford Bridge after securing a superb 3-1 win against Chelsea at Elland Road in December, and are looking to repeat that feat on their travels.

Ahead of the clash with Chelsea, new signing Facundo Buonanotte makes the bench after missing out on Friday, while Lukas Nmecha is confirmed to start.

Calvert-Lewin has been fantastic up top for the Whites this term, and scored his 10th of the season in the recent win.

But the striker will miss the clash on the road, with Farke handed a huge blow ahead of kick-off.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin a big absentee vs Chelsea

The 10-goal striker has been a revelation in the final third for Leeds, leading the line by example as they fight for their Premier League survival.

In the build-up to the outing in West London, Farke reported in his press conference that: “Dominic was struggling with illness, but I hope it’s not too bad.”

Though, with the team news for Chelsea announced, Leeds’ in-form striker was confirmed to be absent through illness by Leeds’ official X account.

The former Everton man is replaced by Nmecha, who has scored five times in the Premier League since his summer move from Wolfsburg.

Calvert-Lewin will be a big miss for Leeds

The Sheffield-born striker has been sensational for Leeds since his move from Everton.

With his large frame and excellent movement in the box, Calvert-Lewin has led by example in the final third, racking up 10 goals in the process.

In a fixture where Leeds will be expected to be without the ball for large periods, his presence will be missed when it comes to Leeds shifting the ball forward.

As the Whites look to pull further clear of the drop zone, it is a big chance for Nmecha, who gets his chance in a huge away clash.
