Dermot O’Leary – Leeds can get in Europe in the ‘next year or two’
Self-confessed Arsenal fan Dermot O’Leary made a special guest appearance on the official Leeds United podcast on Thursday.
And he predicted that Leeds would qualify for Europe in the next couple of years.
After he was mixed up with Dermot Gallagher in last week’s podcast, O’Leary dropped in this week to give his verdict on Leeds this season.
And Leeds fans will love what he had to say.
“I’d like to see you do really well this year,” O’Leary said.
“You’re such a great brand. It would be great to see you guys back in Europe.
“That’s why I hate the idea of a European Super League, anything you don’t qualify for by merit.
“If it’s not special it becomes normal and football has to be decided on merit.
“With the big teams winning the cups, if you can finish in 7th-8th [you would qualify for Europe], and that, within a year or two, is well within your grasp.
“I’ve got to leave in two minutes. I’ll be a Leeds fan before I leave,” O’Leary added.
All Leeds Aren’t We
It’s hard not to be a Leeds fan this season.
We’ve been a real breath of fresh air in the Premier League, delivering the thrills and spills while so many of the big teams have focused on defence.
We’re not fans of people having second teams but we know that a lot of neutral fans have picked Leeds as their side to cheer on in the Premier League.
That makes a real change from the past and it’s all down to Bielsa’s brilliant brand of attacking football.
The aim for Leeds is European football and while next season would be ahead of schedule, we’ll have a shot if Bielsa and Victor Orta can get the summer transfer business right.
A new left-back, two new midfielders and a back-up striker would be good, and a keeper if Kiko Casilla finally leaves.
