‘Definitely’ – Neil Warnock states what will happen to Leeds in 20/21 Premier League
Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock has delivered his verdict on the three clubs promoted up to the Premier League – and he’s been pretty complimentary about Leeds United for once.
Former Leeds manager Warnock was talking on the Breakfast show on talkSPORT (Thursday, 8am), when he said that he thought Leeds would “definitely hold their own” in the top-flight.
He said he was worried about West Brom and Fulham but couldn’t help but get a little Whites dig in to start with.
“They [Leeds] tried to throw it away before. But I love Leeds, it’s a fantastic club, brilliant fans,” said Warnock.
“They’ll hold their own, they’ll definitely hold their own in the Premier League.
“The other two I’m not so sure. I think Fulham have got a better squad than West Brom.”
Mid-table will do for Leeds
Leeds fans don’t hold Warnock in high regard after his short and awful stint in charge of the team.
However, we’ll give him a pass here for delivering a more measured view on Leeds’ prospects than normal.
Warnock always has something to say about Leeds under Bielsa and he’s generally wrong. He kept banging on about our leaky defence as we notched up the most clean sheets in the Championship last season.
However, like Warnock, we’re optimistic about Leeds’ chances in the Premier League.
The 45 minutes against Arsenal in the FA Cup in January showed that Bielsa’s tactical nous can hold its own against the big boys.
We’re not getting carried away like some Leeds fans. Like Andrea Radrizzani, we’d be happy with a mid-table finish and a period of consolidation.
But to say that this Leeds squad will hold its own is a huge compliment to players who must have thought they’d reached their level in the Championship under Paul Heckingbottom.
What a difference two years make.
