Dave Farrar: Junior Firpo penalty was perfect
Dave Farrar was impressed with Junior Firpo’s penalty for Leeds United against Fulham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
With no team managing to break the deadlock, penalties were the only way to separate the two and the Whites ended up winning the contest.
Summer signing Firpo stepped up to take a penalty and confidently tucked the ball home.
Describing his penalty for the Carabao Cup world feed, Farrar, a BT Sport commentator said, “Perfect penalty under pressure.
“Pure class there from Junior Firpo.”
Need better performances
Firpo may have taken an impeccable penalty and put in a decent shift all game, but his performances since moving to Elland Road have been underwhelming.
He’s still got accustomed to the way Marcelo Bielsa likes his full-backs to operate and has been caught out of position on several occasions.
Defensively too he’s not the best, but has decent pace so can use it to cover up some of his flaws.
That said, there’s still plenty to improve and he’s got to start becoming a regular chance creating outlet for the Whites.
He did that to great success under Quique Setien at Real Betis and that’s possibly the player Bielsa thinks he can get at Leeds.
Hopefully, he turns his performances around as he’s undoubtedly got plenty of talent.
Bielsa will certainly be working with him on the training pitch to help improve his game and we back him to succeed in the coming weeks.
