Dave Farrar: Joe Gelhardt is going to be a star

Leeds United youngster Joe Gelhardt has been tipped for greatness by commentator Dave Farrar.

The 19-year-old came off the bench of the weekend against Southampton to win a late penalty that saw Leeds draw 1-1.

He was also brought on in the second half on Tuesday night and while he did not have a game-changing display, and saw his side lose 2-0 against Arsenal, he was still lauded by the man on commentary for the EFL world feed.

While talking about the Whites attacker, Farrar, a Sky Sports commentator, said, “Gelhardt’s going to be a star, that’s for sure.

“Tonight’s the kind of nights you learn from.

“The games against the very best are the best teachers.”

Sensational player

Gelhardt came on over the weekend and few would think he would’ve had the sort of impact he did against the Saints.

He was exemplary in every sense of the word and took Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side by surprise.

While many expected him to have the same kind of influence against the Gunners, it wasn’t to be, but that shows just how he’s raised expectations in such a short time.

We would have loved to see him score or assist against them as well and are sure that he will come good in the coming weeks for the Whites.

Marcelo Bielsa already seems to be impressed by what he’s seen of the player and more chances could be in the offing in the next few games.

The Argentine has shown a commitment to promoting youngsters to the senior team and Gelhardt is proof that all the work going on behind the scenes at Thorp Arch is paying dividends.
