Daniel Farke rages at fourth official after Ethan Ampadu incident in Leeds United win v Huddersfield

Daniel Farke was furious with four official Benjamin Speedie after Leeds United were left down to 10 men for too long in their 4-1 win over Huddersfield, according to LeedsLive.

The news outlet reported via their website on 29 October that after Ethan Ampadu was forced off the pitch in need of treatment for a challenge by Jonathan Hogg, Farke took issue with how long it took for referee James Bell to allow him back onto the pitch.

It is understood that Farke let rip at Speedie for Bell’s hesitancy as Ampadu was left waiting on the touchline for the referee to wave him back on for an inordinate amount of time.

Same old EFL

It’s impossible to go through an EFL match without an official causing some kind of nuisance.

It’s unacceptable for a referee to forget about an injured player being on the sidelines.

That’s what seemed to be the case on Saturday against Huddersfield when Bell allowed the Terriers to play against 10 men for a good chunk of time when it was one of their players who caused it with a strong challenge.

Ampadu was luckily ok to continue but referees have to do better because Huddersfield were essentially being rewarded for being the aggressor.

Maybe they’ll try to do that more often now because they’ll get a short one-man advantage for a period of time. Or maybe teams will try to do it when Bell is the referee of their matches.

It’s just poor and we understand totally why Farke would be livid with the fourth official, who should really be able to override a referee’s decisions for things like that because why does it have to depend on the man in the middle to call a player back on? Why does that formality exist in the first place?
