Daniel Farke provides Junior Firpo injury update after Leeds United v Derby
Leeds United will be without Junior Firpo against Middlesbrough on Tuesday due to a hamstring injury, Daniel Farke has said.
BBC Radio Leeds commentator Adam Pope posted on X (7 December) after United’s 2-0 win at Elland Road, with Farke stating that Firpo’s hamstring issue would force him out of their next match.
The left-back was forced off just 21 minutes into Saturday’s match, with Max Wober coming off the bench for Firpo and scoring his side’s second goal following Joe Rodon’s headed opener.
Leeds United hit with Junior Firpo blow after Derby County victory
Picking Firpo in the starting XI to face Derby always appeared to be a risky move on Farke’s part, given he’d been an injury doubt prior to the game, and the gamble has certainly not paid off.
Firpo pulling up with that hamstring issue 20 minutes into his 100th United appearance appears to be the only downside of a dominant victory for Farke’s side and now looks to have further ramifications.
Missing the 28-year-old against an attack-minded Middlesbrough side could prove to be a double-edged sword for the Whites, with the more defensively-minded Wober likely to be given a start.
Despite scoring his first goal for the club from close range in a front-footed display of his own, it remains to be seen how Wober will fare as a starting left-back against one of the league’s better sides.
Firpo remains the first-choice bar none for Farke when fully fit, and having seen his risky move backfire against Derby, the German will hope his number three is back in the fold as soon as possible.
In other Leeds news, a United veteran’s January exit could be on the cards with the club chasing a new transfer in his position.
