Daniel Farke has Patrick Bamford problem at Leeds United as concern raised
Jon Newsome believes that Patrick Bamford will be unhappy with the amount of playing time he’s had at Leeds United since his return from injury.
The striker has missed a large chunk of the 2024/25 season due to injury and hasn’t yet made his way back into Daniel Farke’s first team.
Speaking live on BBC Radio Leeds (30 November, 12:47pm) before the West Yorkshire outfit’s 1-0 Championship loss to Blackburn Rovers, Newsome shared his thoughts on the Whites’ striker situation.
“It’s not as simple as saying ‘you’re playing or you’re not’. That’s the issue managers have these days because you have 20-25 players to keep happy,” he said.
“The likes of Patrick Bamford, no matter what you say to him, he’s not going to be happy – he wants to play football. He’s into the latter stages of his career and wants to play on a regular basis.
“He’s a good lad around the dressing room, but he’s also a bit of a thorn in the manager’s side. He’s got enough experience to ask questions.”
Daniel Farke needs to decide about the future of Patrick Bamford at Leeds United
One area of the team that Farke has a lot of options in is that of number nine. Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe have been the two players usually taking up the position but now Bamford is back from injury, he has now entered the mix.
Joe Gelhardt is also still within the Whites’ ranks but he’s often been left as an unused substitute this season.
In fact, the 22-year-old has recently been linked with a move away this January so that he can get some game time under his belt.

Prior to his injury last season, he was Farke’s first-choice number nine and was practically indispensable.
This was shown when the West Yorkshire outfit failed to win Southampton in the playoff final and narrowly missed out on gaining promotion back to the Premier League.
There’s still time for decisions to be made of course but the sooner it happens, the better it’ll be for both parties.
