Daniel Farke assistant shares why Leeds United manager went nuts at Peter Bankes

Daniel Farke was shown a red card after full-time against Manchester City after a furious confrontation with Peter Bankes, and assistant Eddie Riemer has spoken on the incident.

Farke’s red card meant he was not allowed to partake in the regular post-match interviews. This means fans will have to wait to hear from the German.

That will likely arrive in his pre-match press conference as Leeds host Sunderland on Tuesday evening.

However, assistant Eddie Riemer has said he has spoken to Farke and confirmed the reasoning behind the German’s frustrations.

The Leeds assistant has now relayed that conversation to the media, stating it was Man City’s antics that infuriated the 49-year-old.

How Eddie Riemer explained Daniel Farke’s red card

There was certainly plenty of disappointment at Elland Road from a Leeds perspective, and that appeared to bubble up at full-time.

As Farke got sent off, his post-match duties had to be fulfilled by assistant Riemer, who has now spoken about the red card.

Riemer stated he spoke with the German, saying: “I just had a short chat [with Farke].

“Six minutes of added time; they were time-wasting, and there were incidents, with the goalkeeper keeping the ball, so he was emotional in terms of going on the pitch and asking.

“Maybe he did it in too aggressive a manner, I would think. I am disappointed because he’s never a manager who’s overaggressive or overreacting. I think it’s a very harsh decision.”

The red card is Farke’s first as Leeds manager and also the first he has received throughout his career in the dugout.

However, he did serve a suspension in the Championship last season after picking up too many yellow cards.

How the past could have increased Farke’s frustrations against Man City

Emotions are likely to be higher when you consider Farke had similar complaints in the reverse fixture about City’s time-wasting.

Interestingly enough, Bankes was the man in the middle for that fixture as well.

Farke had complained to the fourth official at the Etihad about Gianluigi Donnarumma going down and wasting time. It appears Déjà vu has struck for the Whites boss.

The complaints could be justified, as the referee did blow the whistle bang on the end of added time. It appears Bankes did not take into account the time-wasting that was on display.

As the Whites pushed for an equaliser, they may have been able to find one if the correct time was adjudicated by the official.

As the stats show, Leeds were putting the Manchester club under a lot of pressure throughout the 90 minutes.

The Whites will no doubt see that as a missed opportunity to get one over on the title race prospects.

However, Farke may also be happy he won’t be subject to their dark arts tactics in the Premier League again this season.
