Daniel James axed, Joel Piroe decision made – Leeds confirmed XI v Luton Town

Daniel Farke has made one change to his Leeds United starting XI, with Dan James dropped to the bench for the clash against Luton Town on Wednesday.

The Whites welcome Luton to Elland Road [27 November] as Farke’s side aim to move back level on points with Sheffield United at the Championship summit.

For the clash against the Hatters, Wilfried Gnonto has returned to the starting lineup after his 91st-minute off the bench in the 4-3 win against Swansea City on Sunday [24 November], with James among the subs.

Joel Piroe retains his place in attack on the back of the dramatic victory in South Wales.

Daniel James loses his place for Leeds United v Luton Town

Leeds supporters will be scratching their heads at Farke’s decision to leave James out of the side. The Welshman proved he is level above the rest in the Championship with his display against Swansea.

Gnonto deserves his place back in the starting XI for the Whites after his shock snub on the weekend but Farke has continued to leave the opposition guessing with his latest selection.

David Norris warned Leeds their inability to break down top-level opposition in the Championship will be detrimental to their Premier League promotion aspirations – leaving James out of the equation to face Luton could come back to haunt the side.

Luton, rather surprisingly, find themselves in a relegation scrap upon their return to the Championship but still pose a formidable threat to the Whites.

However, the atmosphere in West Yorkshire could not be more positive. Josuha Guilavogui delivered a speech to inspire his teammates ahead of the last gasp win against Swansea and the players will be eager for a more straightforward affair this time out.
